Quick Answer

Jaipur Sightseeing — Forts, Palaces & the Pink City

Jaipur is the third and final city of the classic Golden Triangle — and it happens to be where our own team is based. Founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the old walled city was painted its famous terracotta pink in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales, and the colour has been a proud tradition ever since.

Between the hilltop grandeur of Amber Fort, the intricate facade of Hawa Mahal, and the still-inhabited City Palace, Jaipur packs centuries of Rajput history into a single, walkable old city. Being local means we know exactly when each site is quietest, and which bazaar lane actually has what you’re looking for.

Insider Tips

Jaipur Visit — What You Need to Know

Critical information your guide will cover — but worth knowing before you arrive.

🐘

Amber Fort — Jeep, Not Elephant

Elephant rides at Amber Fort raise real animal-welfare concerns, so we don't offer or arrange them. A private jeep ride up to the fort is faster, safer, and just as memorable.

We book jeep transport up to the fort instead
🛍️

Bazaar Shopping

Johari Bazaar (jewellery) and Bapu Bazaar (textiles & footwear) are the classics. Bargaining is expected — start around half the asking price.

Blue pottery and block-print textiles are local specialities
📸

Best Hawa Mahal Photo

The iconic facade shot is from the street directly opposite — morning light works best, and it's far less crowded before 9 AM.

Early morning avoids both crowds and traffic
🌡️

Summer Heat

April to June brings intense heat (often 40°C+). October to March is far more comfortable for a full day of sightseeing on foot.

Oct–Mar is the ideal season

Our trip to India was simply wonderful! The travel agency was extremely attentive from start to finish, always keeping in touch and making sure we had the best possible experience. The driver who accompanied us throughout the journey was excellent — very polite, helpful, and drove safely the entire time, which made a huge difference. The local guides were also fantastic, showing deep knowledge about the history and culture of each place we visited. Without a doubt, an unforgettable experience and a travel agency I highly recommend!

Common Questions

Jaipur Tour FAQ — Answered by Our Experts

Everything international travellers ask before visiting the Pink City.

In 1876, Maharaja Ram Singh II had the old city painted a terracotta-pink colour to welcome Prince Albert (later King Edward VII) on his visit to India. The tradition stuck, and buildings in the old walled city are still required to keep the pink facade today.

Jaipur is about 268 km (5–6 hours by car) from Delhi, and around 235 km (~5 hours) from Agra. Both routes are included as private transfers on our Golden Triangle packages.

We don't offer or arrange elephant rides at Amber Fort due to genuine animal-welfare concerns. Instead, we book a private jeep directly up to the fort entrance — faster, more comfortable, and just as memorable.

A full day comfortably covers Amber Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal and Jantar Mantar. A half-day tour works if you're short on time, though you'll see fewer sites. Two days lets you add bazaar shopping and Nahargarh Fort at a relaxed pace.

October to March is best — cool, clear days ideal for a full day of walking between forts and palaces. April to June gets very hot, often above 40°C.

Yes. Jaipur is actually where our own team is based, so we know the city, its traffic patterns and its bazaars well. With a private guide and driver throughout, it's comfortable for solo travellers, couples and families alike.
